During the production of the titanium alloy fastener, the hydrogen content must be controlled to meet the requirements of the product. Once the hydrogen content is determined, the material must be measured and inspected.

While measuring the hydrogen content, it is important to remember that the actual value of hydrogen will vary from material to material. Moreover, the actual value will not reflect the titanium alloy material itself.

Generally, the hydrogen content of titanium alloy fasteners can be as low as 3%. However, the hydrogen content may be higher than 3% in some cases. Because hydrocarbons do not decompose under normal temperature conditions, the actual value of hydrogen in the fastener does not reflect the hydrogen content. Hence, it is important to perform a careful inspection.

Besides the tensile strength, the ductility of titanium alloy fasteners must be monitored during production. A relative ductility index value of less than 108 ksi indicates that the ductility of the titanium alloy fastener is lower than that of other metals.

The tensile strength of titanium fasteners can be as high as 350,000 psi.
